Happy Birthday Jackson!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of making a simple birthday cake for a friend of mine for her son Jackson's 6th birthday.  Now, please keep in mind that I do not take birthdays lightly (I tend to go a little overboard every now and then, but birthday's are very special), and she only let me know about the party 2 days before the actual party (I love her, but she is always late with invites :-)).  Well, 2 days didn't give me quite enough time to prepare what I really wanted, so I had to settle for a 2D SpongeBob.

Jackson loved the cake so much that he wouldn't even let his mom put the candle in it so that we could sing happy birthday.  I was very happy that he loved the cake so much, and maybe next year, with enough notice, I'll be able to pull off something that is a more spectacular.

I didn't do a tutorial for it because, let's face it, there are tons of SpongeBob cakes out there and quite a few tutorials out there as well, but my favorite tutorial has to be this one from the lovely Ms. Stephanie over at Cake Fixation.  If you've never seen her work, please go check it out as she is an amazing cake artist and she has shared some amazing tutorials.

The cake flavors, by Jackson's request, were yellow cake with strawberry filling and chocolate icing.  The fondant is my marshmallow fondant recipe, tasty and an easy alternative (when running low on time) to the completely from scratch fondant that I usually make.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
I love comments!!!
If you have any questions about the steps I took to make Spongebob or any questions about the recipes used for the cake, please feel free to leave a comment and I will definitely respond.

Have a beautiful, blessed day!!!

  4. Ashley, first off ... thanks for joining our blog hop this week! And what an adorable cake. I tried making a cake not-so-long ago, and it basically fell apart as I tried to ice it. LOL! But I mean, it still tasted good ... so I guess that's all that matters. But I love this, looks yummy too!
